November 2016: GM Magnus Carlsen, 25 (Norway) retained his world title in New York by defeating GM Sergey Karjakin, 27 (Russia) 3-1 in a rapid play play-off after the standard play championship match finished in a 6-6 tie.
September 2016: 2 new sections have also been added to the Level 3 Syllabus and Revision Guide on A) Defending the King and B) Playing too Passively. We do not anticipate making any further material changes to the Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 Syllabuses or Revision Guides during this decade. There will be no material changes to the Level 4 or Level 5 Syllabuses or Revision Guides before July 2017.
August 2016: 2 new sections have been added to the Level 2 Syllabus and Revision Guide on A) Attacking and Defending Pieces and B) Tournament Chess.
